The PREFEX is a next-generation media processing edge platform revolutionizing how media facilities are designed, enabling customers to move to an infrastructure that allows for essential core broadcast services to be applied on a generic hardware platform when required. This paradigm shift from discrete, fixed-function hardware to compute pools of generic hardware with licensable software services provides media companies a flexible, scalable and agile broadcast infrastructure to dynamically meet and adapt to changing facility requirements.

The PREFEX is an FPGA-accelerated processing blade that supports both 12G/3G/HD-SDI and IP interfaces. The PREFEX provides FPGA-based processing cores where a number of different types of applications (APPs) can be configured, providing services that include gateway, audio, ancillary and video data processing and multiviewer functionality. As a future-proof, FPGA-based compute blade, PREFEX provides all the scalability and flexibility of a virtualized environment, while also ensuring low latency, low power and reliable real-time processing.

PREFEX utilizes Evertz' MAGNUM-OS orchestration software to allow users to easily manage APPs and the pool of compute resources. These software tools allow media companies to deploy the required applications (e.g. gateway or video / audio / ancillary processing) as needed. The PREFEX provides greater efficiency and utilization of compute resource with respect to fixed function devices or COTS-based hardware, allowing users to accomplish precisely what they need, when needed. The PREFEX supports SNMP, IGMP, JSON, REST-API and NMOS IS-04/05 protocol. These interfaces provide seamless integration with Evertz' VUE user interface, MAGNUM-OS, MAGNUM-NMS, MAGNUM-Analytics and third-party systems.

Applications - Gateways

PREFEX allows customers to build scalable IP production and playout systems based on the SMPTE ST 2110, addressing current needs and future opportunities. It also supports integration with existing SDI workflows and systems.

Many media organizations are transitioning from SDI to IP-based architectures, benefiting from shared resources, cost savings, increased flexibility and readiness for UHD/HDR. While moving to a fully IP-based infrastructure is complex, Evertz provides the expertise and features needed for successful implementation.

PREFEX leverages Evertz's extensive experience in video processing and conversion from 7812/7814 from SD/HD to UHD and HDR. Supports single-stream UHD over SMPTE ST 2110 and 12G SDI, enabling seamless integration into modern broadcast environments. Designed to address the challenges of UHD and HDR signal processing, manipulation and delivery across the broadcast chain, while maintaining a flexible and scalable workflow.

Leverages trusted 7812/7814 technology used globally for UHD and HDR conversion - ensuring preservation of picture quality across HD, 1080p and UHD - and supports SDR, HLG, PQ and Slog3 workflows.

Applications - Multiviewers

PREFEX builds on proven core technology and experience that Evertz has developed in the multi-image display space over the past 15 years. Since the introduction of the MVP, Evertz has been looked upon as the innovative multiviewer solution provider that addresses the changing landscape in media production and distribution.

PREFEX multiviewer APPs offer comprehensive monitoring of video (e.g. loss, black, frozen, etc.), audio (loss, mute, loudness, etc.) and ancillary data (e.g. closed captions, subtitles, SCTE, etc.) parameters to ensure quality of the signals. PREFEX offers a wide range of multiviewer APPs for SDI, SMPTE ST 2110, ST 2110-22, JPEG-XS and ST 2022-6 which allow monitoring of SD, HD,3G, UHD or 8K signals.
